I had trouble deciding what to write about today. I was going to talk about Lunar New Year, both because I’m a fan of new beginnings and because it’s the reason I was off from work today and thus the reason why I’m starting this at 11am instead of 6am (yes, I’m one of the last sick bastards to hardly ever schedule posts; these things are written on the spot every morning).
I couldn’t really get into it, though. I don’t actually celebrate this holiday, and what could I write about Lunar New Year that I hadn’t already said a month ago on January 1st?
We’re entering the Year of the Snake. Maybe that was something! I’d look into what exactly that meant and hopefully derive some inspiration from it.
What next? I went to google.com which, of course, had a special logo for the occasion.
The logo had a play button on it, and before my brain even had the time to register what it was doing, I clicked on it. Suddenly, I was playing a game of Snake.
Snake is an interesting game. It’s simple. In fact, apart from the minor random element of where the apples are, it’s virtually the same every time. There’s a clear way to score highly which virtually everyone with a brain can figure out after playing a few games. However, despite knowing intellectually how to get to the end where the pixelated serpent fills the entire screen and there’s nowhere to go, it’s difficult to actually get there.
This is because Snake tests its player.
