The War of Art (This Book Will Change Your Life)
A Book Recommendation from the Thinking Man Book Club
Melissa’s Comments:
I’m going to keep this one short and sweet, because The War of Art speaks for itself.
If you’re a writer, a painter, a musician, you should read this book. If you’ve ever aspired to make a change in your life or pursue something outside your comfort zone, you should read this book. Everyone should read this book.
The War of Art is an antidote to laziness. It teaches you to stop talking about what you want to do and actually do it. It is an antidote to ‘resistance’: the metaphysical foe facing all of us which keeps us from doing the things that we were put in this world to do.
Even if you’re not stuck—even if you’re at the top of your game and living life exactly how you want to—there’s still value in this book for you. The War of Art paints a clear, concise picture of the spiritual process of creation. It’s a guide to life. An instruction manual for how to view the world.
I’m not going to summarize Steven Pressfield’s ideas here. The book is short; you can read it yourself. I’ll just leave you with a final thought. Thinking Man would not exist without this book. I would be a different person without this book.
It will do the same for you.
John’s Comments:
I jumped the gun a little on this one. I wrote an article about Steven Pressfield on Sunday, which you can read here:
There’s not much I can say about this book that I haven’t said already. It changed my life. It changes my life every time I read it. It’s the best book ever (outside of Gates of Fire).
If you want to get better, physically and spirituality—if you want a kick in the ass, a reason for being, a push in the right direction—read it. Like right now. And yes the audiobook is just as good as reading the physical book. It’s narrated by the savior himself and has sweet sound effects. Ok I’m done. Read it. Bye.

So... just to make sure I am fully understanding you two: I should read this book... yes? 😉
A compelling case you have made, and with payday loitering just on the horizon... 🫡
Read it a while back and this is definitely worth a look. Changed the way I looked at creative endeavours.
