You managed to write that whole post without any bashing of the cross-town rivals in the Bronx. Impressive!
When I was eight years old, my mom turned on the b&W TV to show the Yankees playing the Reds in the World Series. My father worked for the sports section of the Times at the time, so he was at the game. I had never seen MLB baseball before.
"Whom do we want to win?" I asked. (The odds are 0% that I actually said "whom.")
"Well, we live in New York, so we want the Yankees to win."
And a lifelong Yankees fan was born.
I just want you to know that I have never hated the Mets. That always seemed silly to me.
Pretending the Yankees don’t exist has been a far easier coping mechanism for the completely illogical decision of being a Mets fan in a town where the other team has 27 championships… Plus, it’s much more fun to bash the Mets and Jets. It’s the only way we show we care!
Yankees fans show they care by being so entitled and rude that they take players with Hall of Fame potential and yell at them so much that they give them the permanent yips. Do Mets fans do that too?
The Mets will sign an All-Star who will get booed to oblivion if he isn’t voted league MVP within the first two weeks of the season, and he’ll never recover from it.

Altuve and the Astros, on the other hand…………………

Exaaaactly. So awful. Is that just a big-city thing? Like, for example, St.Louis fans seem so nice. Do they do that to their players too?
Haha I think it is a big city thing. The bigger the city, the bigger the population, the bigger the chances for drunken mayhem at the games.
At least it's not the way it was in the '70s and '80s—when fights would frequently break out in the stands.
You’ll eat these words when Adrian Houser and the Mets’ league best ERA brings us back of the yoffs 🙏🏻
