I'm with you Melissa, quite frankly I don't trust any of them and the danger of choosing between "the lesser of two evils" is that you are still choosing evil.
In regards to a philosopher king who might help in making changes over time, there's a great quote by Buckminster Fuller:
"The whole ship goes by and then comes the rudder. And there’s a tiny thing on the edge of the rudder called a trim tab. It’s a miniature rudder. Just moving that little trim tab builds a low pressure that pulls the rudder around. It takes almost no effort at all. So I said that the individual can be a trim tab. Society thinks it’s going right by you, that it’s left you altogether. But if you’re doing dynamic things mentally, the fact is that you can just put your foot out like that and the whole ship of state is going to turn around. So I said, ‘Call me Trim Tab.’“
I think we could use more Bucky Fullers in this world and less politicians.
Thanks for this, Frater. That’s an amazing quote, and it restores some hope—maybe the “saving grace” or whatever you’d like to call it will come from these type of individuals, not some prominent authority figure.
This is a far different world than the one I grew up in. Back then the reach from D. C. was minimal and barely affected our daily lives. Today, of course the powers that be D. C. decide, define and delimit just about everything including what type of light bulbs we can buy, how much water our showers can spray and how many genders there are.
So yes it's very important that you influence your friends to and that you get out and vote and vote correctly else the sky will fall and civilization will topple! OK BS. So maybe not. History shows us the best of times and the worst of times occur and reoccur. Our parents, grand, great grand, great great grand parents experienced such, made it through and, hence, here we are today.
There's at least a fair to middlin chance we will make it through too.
In light of such, hope for, try to create the best but assuredly also prepare for the worst.
Bottom line; deal with politics, etc. as best we can, what ever works best for each individual.
Realize whatever the poll results the sun'll still rise tomorrow morning and, allowing me to sound a wee bit smarmy here, I intend to face it with a smile on my face and a song in my heart & I sincerely hope you will too! grin
Shucky darn, it ain't no thang, lessen you let it get to you. ;-)

Well said. I wish I could show your comment to the people (on both sides) over-reacting to the election results today.
From my chair, the single clearest issue with human nature is that “power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” (Lord Acton) The only way to short circuit that inevitability is through accountability. That is the highest purpose of the State, to protect the people from evil. It is too bad they have allowed themselves to grow WAY BEYOND that fundamental raison d’être.

I fully agree with the picture you posted and I feel much as you noted Melissa!

It’s crazy how much has changed.

(from the article) "Is authority inevitable? Do we ‘need’ leaders?
I will respond with a quote of my own…”If men were angels, no government would be necessary.”
(James Madison)
Very good point. In other words, we’re screwed either way, huh?

Just live your life as best you can. The rest is all noise.
