I decided a long time ago that satori is a passing thing and that that's good.
I strongly believe we need the downs to appreciate the ups. Being in the grove, everything roses, now, always, all the morrows after tomorrow would soon dull ones soul. No matter if it's sugar or the finest spice, if that's all you've got, all you'll ever have, soon it tastes like paste or pablum.
I can't say that I have ever reached nirvana, but I have had a few exceptional spontaneous moments of deep transcendence. They were very memorable and beautiful, but I have no idea how I got there. I have been practicing a variety of forms of meditation for a couple of decades, never once have I been able to achieve that state intentionally, it has only ever happened 'out of the blue', often in the most unexpected times and places, when I wasn't trying. I think completely letting go of everything may have something to do with it (a bit like the art of Wu wei), I am always a little too 'in my own head' .

Distractions abound…a beautiful read, thank you, it gives much to consider.
